Miracle? Mexican Faithful See Christ's Head Incline

(Mexico City) Did the figure if Christ in the Criss Inclined its head on Good Friday in the parish of Santa Ana of Tepetitlan in Zapopan, a neighboring town of Guadalajara in the Mexican state of Jalisco on the Pacific coast?

The incident took place during the Tres Horas (three hours), an extra-liturgical form of devotion, which is widely used in Latin America, and considers the Seven Last Words of Jesus. This devotion goes from 12 to 3 pm of the Good Friday.
Like today, parts of devotion in the Mexican parish were filmed amateurishly by one of the faithful. The records show what they were able to observe with their own eyes: the head of the crucified lower.
The video has received a lot of attention since then. On April 24, Mexican television reported on the incident. Rev. Juan Antonio Guerra Lule speaks of a "divine sign". He prefers not to use the word "miracle": "I would rather speak of a benevolent gesture that has happened exactly at the last word. It was three o'clock in the afternoon, when it came to this movement, which is natural," the priest told Univision.
The Christ representation of the Crucified is more than 300 years old. The life-size figure is most of the time behind a glass pane in the "Holy Sepulcher". Only on Good Friday and on the Day of the Dead (All Saints, All Souls) is it fixed to the cross, which is done by cords, which also make it possible to spread out the arms. The head, however, is not movable.

Papal Critic from the Margins, Who Will Hasten the Restructuring of the US-Episcopate

(Rome)  The Pope who came from the ends of the world was cheered by the old center, but was slowed down by the margins.  Norberto Cardinal Rivera Carrera, Primate of Mexico, unleashed a clearly negative opinion on Pope Francis' speech to the Mexican bishops: "Improvised words and ill-advised."  Rivera's criticism stirred "pandemonium" in the Vatican, said the Vatican expert, Sandro Magister. The "bad adviser" from Mexico is to be promoted by Pope Francis even to a key position in Washington. He is there to put the US episcopate on a Bergoglio course.

The Cardinal was particularly critical about those passages in which the Pope allowed himself to elaborate from the prepared speech to the  left, speaking freely and improvising. Exhorting the bishops to have a duty "to preserve the unity of the Episcopal Community," were particularly offensive.The editorial in the church newspaper Desde la fe of the Archdiocese is not identified by name. Nevertheless, the authorship is attributed to the Archbishop of Mexico City, Norberto Cardinal Rivera Carrera, Primate of the Latin American [Central] country. The unsigned editorials usually  come from the Archbishop. Cardinal Rivera is taking on Pope Francis frontally because of his address, which he held three weeks earlier in the Cathedral of the Mexican capital, to the Bishops of the country. The editorial was also published on the website of the weekly newspaper  and that of the Archdiocese.
The Pope had said: "If you must argue, argue. If you have something to say, say it.  But do it like men, to the face, and as men of God who then go together to pray and try to differ together. And if you have crossed boundaries, then ask forgiveness."  In summary, the Pope said:  "Communion and unity among you: The community is the living form of the Church and the unity of her pastors is the proof of her veracity. It needs no principles, but a community of witnesses of the Lord."

Cardinal Rivera waited three weeks, but he would make no friends with the admonition and replicated it obviously after careful consideration: "Did the Pope have any reason to challenge the Mexican bishops like this? What the Pope knows, and he knows it well, is that the Church in Mexico is an atypical case in comparison with the other American states. First numerically: Our country has 81 percent [93 million],  the highest proportion Catholics, and just this makes us different from the other states of the continent because of this broad and well-established Catholic presence ".
Cardinal Rivera's words were unmistakably not only a reference to other Latin American countries, but a dig against Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga, Archbishop of Tegucigalpa, who is highly regarded  in Rome by Pope Francis and coordinator of the C9-Cardinal Council to advise the Pope. Maradiaga represents the council of cardinal advisers by papal appointment, of Latin America [Central America] and thus Mexico. [Not sure about this since Mexico isn't part of Central America.] In Honduras, the Catholic share in the population has declined since the tenure of Cardinal Maradiaga  within 20 years from 76 to 47 percent.
But also and especially in Argentina, the nation of former Primate Jorge Mario Bergoglio is also suffering  a massive loss of Catholics underway.
A report of the study center Latinobarometro two years ago pointed out that so far, there are only two exceptions in Latin America that are capable of withstanding the erosion of Catholicism toward free churches under US model: Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

"By no means disinterested counselors"

Cardinal Rivera said in an editorial: "The idea would be absurd that His Holiness ignored the great resistance which the Catholic Church has experienced in Mexico to the expansion of the Protestant charismatic communities  and Pentecostals, who spread unhindered in other countries."
Therefore, the editorialist asks the question: "Are the improvised words of the Holy Father not the consequence of bad advice which was given to him by someone who is close to him? Who has ill-advised the Pope."   And again: "Why try to reduce the work of the Mexican bishops? Luckily the people know their shepherd and go with him in the establishment of the Kingdom of God, whatever the price, which the history of this country shows."
That he can not be a disinterested counselor is hinted by Cardinal Rivera at the end of the editorial. "The hand of discord," intended to give the impression that "these are temptations of the evils of the episcopate."
The complaints and admonition to the papal speech are similar to those which had already been expressed on other occasions and by other bishops, of the Pope, for example, in September 2015, Washington. To the US bishops and in November 2015 in Florence to the Italian Bishops.   In neither case, however, on the other hand, was there raised such a protest as paramount as that in Mexico. In the other countries, rather, there was unanimous thanks for the "jolt" with which the Pope had shaken up old episcopal schemes. The margins of the Church seems to be actually alive.

Criticism of Pope Francis in the Church newspaper of the Archdiocese of Mexico City, "caused not only pandemonium in the Vatican, but worldwide," said the Vatican expert Sandro Magister.
The Vaticanists and media, who are closest to Santa Marta,  have immediately set themselves in motion to defend the Church's head, "from the Director of the half-official sismografo, Luis Badilla, to the coordinator of the news site Vatican Insider, Andrea Tornielli."
It was Tornielli, who requently goes in and out of Santa Marta, who rightly pointed out the authorship of the editorial as Cardinal Rivera. At the same time he named, amazingly, the Apostolic Nuncio for Mexico, a Frenchman Christophe Pierre, as the "advisor" who had informed  Pope Francis on the Mexican bishops.

It is no secret, said Magister also,  that Pope Francis relies on the judgment of Pierre. Therefore, the revelation and thus exposure, of the Pope's confidant, Pierre, by the Pope's confidant, Tornielli, is explained, because Pierre will soon leave Mexico. Pope Francis is calling upon him for  the new post as  apostolic nuncio to the United States. He will take over from Carlo Maria Viganò, who is retiring.
"The Nunciature in Washington is a key position in Bergoglio's strategy," said Magister. The episcopate of the United States is one of the largest and most influential in the world. Above all, it steadfastly refuses to accept the new guidelines, which Francis would impose on it. The episcopate of the United States remains firmly on the line of the pontificates of John Paul II. and Benedict XVI. [Such as it is.]

New nuncio to bring the US episcopate on Bergoglio course

Pope Francis is aware that the Catholic Church in the US is a major obstacle, to put the world church on   another course. Therefore, he aims at  restructuring the staff of the episcopate.  With the appointment of the left outsider, Blaise Cupich  as Archbishop of Chicago and thus one of the most important dioceses of the United States, he has set his clearest signal  to date in this direction. It was taken by many Catholics of the country, but especially by the majority of bishops, with astonishment and horror.
With Francis a new nuncio faithful to Francis it is to be expected that the reports for the selection of episcopal candidates will take on a new dimension Bergoglian. The conversion of the US episcopate should now proceed at an accelerated pace.

Msgr. Jean Jadot

Christophe Pierre is the first Frenchman as nuncio in Washington, but only the second francophones in this office.  Before him was the Walloon, Jean Jadot of 1973-1980 who held this position. Jadot is considered a "hero" in the progressive US Catholics, says Magister, because he was responsible for a series of progressive episcopal appointments, including those of [Blessed] Rembert Weakland of Milwaukee and Raymond Hunthausen in Seattle.
Jadot's struggles for an "other" Church was the reason why Pope John Paul II. briefly brought him back to the Vatican after his election  and entrusted him with only a minor supporting role. Jadot was so far the only nuncio to the United States, who has not been awarded the dignity of Cardinal. With Viganò it could, albeit for different reasons, be one of two. "His elevation to cardinal status is far from certain," said Magister.

Father Spadaro and the Confusing "Minister of the Eucharist" -- The Introduction of Calvinist Hand Communion

(Mexico City) Sources of information about the pastoral visit of Pope Francis to Mexico includes the Twitter account of the Jesuit priest, Antonio Spadaro. Spadaro is the editor of the Roman Jesuit journal La Civilta Cattolica . He is considered to be one of those closest  personal friends to the Argentine Pope. On September 2013 he published the first media interview with Francis.
The editor is very active on Twitter  and sends short messages several times a day, including on the Pope's Mass in Ecatepec in Mexico City. So  he also sent the above picture and wrote: "Ministri dell'Eucaristia" (Minister of the Eucharist). Such designation is explicitly rejected by the current provisions.
"Ministers of the Eucharist" are priests only, as the instruction Redemptionis Sacramentum 2004 reaffirmed. Did Father Spadaro mistake the "minister of the Eucharist" with communion helpers? A lapse or Freudian slip?
The picture shows namely without doubt extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, which are briefly mentioned in the German extraordinary minister of holy communion. It is to lay people who may be appointed in urgent need case, what the Pope's Mass was the case yesterday in Ecatepec.

Extraordinary ministers of holy communion: precedent for current interest?





Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion not Ministers of the Eucharist

The introduction of the extraordinary minister of holy Eucharist is regarded as a precedent for a mechanism to establish changes in the Church.
In 1964 the Berlin Ordinarienkonferenz, the forerunner of the later Berlin Bishops' Conference, which included the bishops of the Communist GDR, issued by Rome's permission to employ "suitable laymen" the diaspora areas for Communion at home worship. The measure was justified to serve  the far-flung areas. In 1966 the exemption was extended. But then something amazing happened.
Although the measure for a given area was granted on the basis of a specific "emergency", it was dealt with in 1967 by the Pope Paul VI. approved instruction Eucharisticum Mysterium in its extension to the entire world Church. The GDR with its diaspora situation was atypical of the Catholic world. Because of the communist dictatorship and the isolation by the Wall, the situation there was also withdrawn from the direct view of the world public. Nevertheless, it served as a trial run which was totallly justified with a total ecclesiastical decision.
The situation is reminiscent of today's Amazon workshop and the attempt to receive permission there to allow  married "viri probati" ordination because of the alleged lack of priests. According to the ideas of the promoters, the "Amazon model" could be just as quickly extended to the entire Catholic Church. An exceptional situation serves to introduce an exemption. It's a breach in the wall that will quickly lead to the complete dam break.
As a result of the introduction of Communion,  priests in some churches no longer distribute Communion to let the layman take precedence. More often, there is no clear need for an extraordinary minister of holy communion, yet they are used. Even when in papal liturgies  it already comes to an undignified treatment of the body of Christ, as the World Youth Day 2013 in Rio de Janeiro or at the Pope's Mass in Manila in January, 2015.

The Effective Rules for Communion Helpers

The Roman permission stressing the exceptional status: the layman is only an "extraordinary" minister of holy communion, to be used only "if necessary".
In 2004, the Congregation for Divine Worship called with the instruction Redemptionis Sacramentum the provisions of achievement:
[88.] The faithful should normally receive sacramental Communion of the Eucharist during Mass itself, at the moment laid down by the rite of celebration, that is to say, just after the Priest celebrant’s Communion.[172] It is the Priest celebrant’s responsibility to minister Communion, perhaps assisted by other Priests or Deacons; and he should not resume the Mass until after the Communion of the faithful is concluded. Only when there is a necessity may extraordinary ministers assist the Priest celebrant in accordance with the norm of law. 
[154.] As has already been recalled, “the only minister who can confect the Sacrament of the Eucharist in persona Christi is a validly ordained Priest”.[254] Hence the name “minister of the Eucharist” belongs properly to the Priest alone. Moreover, also by reason of their sacred Ordination, the ordinary ministers of Holy Communion are the Bishop, the Priest and the Deacon,[255] to whom it belongs therefore to administer Holy Communion to the lay members of Christ’s faithful during the celebration of Mass. In this way their ministerial office in the Church is fully and accurately brought to light, and the sign value of the Sacrament is made complete. 
[155.] In addition to the ordinary ministers there is the formally instituted acolyte, who by virtue of his institution is an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion even outside the celebration of Mass. If, moreover, reasons of real necessity prompt it, another lay member of Christ’s faithful may also be delegated by the diocesan Bishop, in accordance with the norm of law,[256] for one occasion or for a specified time, and an appropriate formula of blessing may be used for the occasion. This act of appointment, however, does not necessarily take a liturgical form, nor, if it does take a liturgical form, should it resemble sacred Ordination in any way. Finally, in special cases of an unforeseen nature, permission can be given for a single occasion by the Priest who presides at the celebration of the Eucharist.[257] 
[156.] This function is to be understood strictly according to the name by which it is known, that is to say, that of extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, and not “special minister of Holy Communion” nor “extraordinary minister of the Eucharist” nor “special minister of the Eucharist”, by which names the meaning of this function is unnecessarily and improperly broadened. 
[157.] If there is usually present a sufficient number of sacred ministers for the distribution of Holy Communion, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion may not be appointed. Indeed, in such circumstances, those who may have already been appointed to this ministry should not exercise it. The practice of those Priests is reprobated who, even though present at the celebration, abstain from distributing Communion and hand this function over to laypersons.[258] 
[158.] Indeed, the extraordinary minister of Holy Communion may administer Communion only when the Priest and Deacon are lacking, when the Priest is prevented by weakness or advanced age or some other genuine reason, or when the number of faithful coming to Communion is so great that the very celebration of Mass would be unduly prolonged.[259] This, however, is to be understood in such a way that a brief prolongation, considering the circumstances and culture of the place, is not at all a sufficient reason. 
[159.] It is never allowed for the extraordinary minister of Holy Communion to delegate anyone else to administer the Eucharist, as for example a parent or spouse or child of the sick person who is the communicant. 
[160.] Let the diocesan Bishop give renewed consideration to the practice in recent years regarding this matter, and if circumstances call for it, let him correct it or define it more precisely. Where such extraordinary ministers are appointed in a widespread manner out of true necessity, the diocesan Bishop should issue special norms by which he determines the manner in which this function is to be carried out in accordance with the law, bearing in mind the tradition of the Church.

"Homo-Bishop" Vera Lopez: "Pope Francis is, 'muy cuco'"



(Mexico City) Bishop Raul Vera Lopez of Saltillo in Mexico, because of his social commitment and recently his activism known through the Church for the recognition of homosexuality, is the media favorite ahead of a Pastoral Visit by Pope Francis in Mexico. On Sunday, El Universal , the largest daily newspaper in the country published an interview with him. The bishop described Pope Francis as "muy hábil, muy cuco", as "very clever, very clever."

Pope Francis has "numerous changes" ahead, but they seem "more cosmetic" says El Universal . It was a statement with which Bishop Vera Lopez disagreed because "the problem" is the priests: "We are the problem." [You got that right.]

As regards the remarried divorcees, the Bishop hopes for the synod, as Pope Francis "is very skilled, very skilled, muy cuco', as my people say, very smart." The people, says the bishop, would expect the Church to be more "human". He knew people who would leave the Church because of this matter. "That's what it's like with the gays," said Vera Lopez.

El Universal : Let's talk about this topic: you celebrating mass with the gay flag. Should the Church recognize the marriage between two persons of the same sex?

Vera Lopez: Their identity is their identity. I think we in the Church have to be much more objective and should examine the subject, but from a different angle.

El Universal : From the point of view that we are all children of God?

The Scriptures have been conceived as "too narrow," so the bishop. The biblical story is not about homosexuality but about unethical exploitation. The people of Sodom were barbarians, the city an economic center. There was much lack of respect for the person there. The narrative described moral decline. "Reading will show us," said Vera Lopez.

El Universal : So, it's a battle of interpretations?

Vera Lopez: No, it's a battle of mentalities, not the interpretations.

Bishop Vera Lopez belongs to a small circle of church and media representatives with whom Pope Francis will meet behind closed doors in confidential meetings during his Mexico trip.

Holy Father Breaks Taboo in Mexico, "Viva Christo Rey"!

(Mexico City) After a moving encounter with children on Saturday evening on the Plaza de la Paz, Pope Benedict XVI's Sunday was dominated in Mexican Leon by something uncustomary for European ears, and a courageous commemoration of the anti-Catholic persecution and resistance of the Cristeros.  The Pope recalled and reawakened the threatened spiritual and  clerical roots of Mexico, which he stressed at his Angelus.  The threat also comes today "from the drug bosses, the crisis of values and criminality."

In a spontaneous action, the Pope received eight families outside of the official program, who had been victims of the drug bosses.  Despite the threats of some political parties, Pope Benedict XVI did not shrink back in fear from demanding religious freedom as a fundamental right.   Mexico is readying itself for its next election and the appearance of the Catholic Church's Leaders causes increasing nervousness for some parties and have brought blatant anti-religious emotions to the surface.

The Pope Recalled the Persecution and Struggle of the Christeros

Upon the "Angel of the Lord" the Pope recalled the anti-Christian persecution in Mexico and the armed struggle of the Cristeros, who fought for the freedom of the Church and religion in a bloody war 1926-1929.  Benedict's desired address breaks a central taboo in Mexico.  In political and public life in the Middle-American country it was virtually forbidden to speak of the horrific persecution of Christians in the previous century,  when the people were ready to name Christ their true Lord,  the Mother of God and to give everything.

"In the times of trial and of suffering many of you were called to be martyrs, who with the cry. 'Long Live Christ the King and Mary of Guadalupe' bore lasting witness to the truth of the Gospel and the devotion to the Church."  With the revival of the battle cry of the Cristeros "Viva Christo Rey! Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe", Benedict XVI impressed his special and completely unexpected stamp and broke a decades long taboo.

The Baby Jesus of Brooklyn: Candlemass

Mexican Traditions help wayfarers against their homesickness -- Candlemass, in the Spanish is called, 'Candelaria',  brings the Christ Child into the Church.  by Gundula Schmidt-Graute [KNA]


New York (kath.net/KNA) Life in New York is hard, especially for Mexican newcomers, who are often without official papers.  The Feast of Candlemass, which will take place on February means home and warm to them.  In their home, in Mexican, Candlemass is an important feast day.  Actually the Mexicans in New York can not travel back home in the middle of winter.  So they make themselves as comfortable as possible in the sleet and cold.


Some participate in traditional services in The Church of the All Holy in Brooklyn.  The church is brightly lit on the 2nd of February, the many holy figures look homey and warm between the neo-Gothic columns.  The people speak softly, mostly in Spanish.  Even the children are quiet and serious.  One sees many indian faces there.  Adults carry little baskets or stick puppets with elaborately decorated and dressed baby puppets.  Some of the figures have white, but most are in colorful dresses.  It is the Jesus Child from the family crib -- much larger than any, which one would find in a European crib.

 >>At Candlemass, which is 'Candalaria' in Spanish, the Jesus Child is brought into Church<<, explained Juan Carlos Aguirre of the Mexican Cultural Association 'Manoamano' [Hand in hand].  >>As Jesus, according to Jewish tradition was brought into the Temple in Jerusalem 40 days after his birth.  That is also the Liturgical end of the Christmas season.<< It begins in Mexico on the 16th of December.  >>One goes from house to house on the 25th and plays Mary and Joseph looking for lodging.<< , explained Aguirre.  >>These are called 'Posadas' [Inns].  On Christmas Day the Jesus Child will be lain the a crib.<<

The Feast of the Three Kings is also important in Latin American Tradition.  In East Harlem, the largest Hispanic concentration in Manhattan, a parade takes place with countless Kings and real camels.  Mexican families break bread: >>rosca<< as it is called;  a kind of cross bun, in which a small figure of Jesus is baked inside.  Whoever finds it is the Godfather of the Jesus Child and responsible for the dressing and eventual repair of an older crib figure.  The Godfather must also have a small party in their home after Mass. >>The object hidden in the bread also has special meaning.<<, said a member of the Cultural Association.  >>King Herod wanted to kill the child, who he learned from the wise men from the East would be declared as a new king.<<

At Maria Candlemas the Priest is dressed completely in white.  All of the songs sung will be Marian, and the Ave Maria will be prayed.  Newborns are brought to the altar and the priest blesses them.  The largest part of the service takes place in Spanish.  >>We pray for families who've been the victims of violence.

Assassination Attempt on Mexican Bishop: Mexico City

He was pursued by a car in which several sat inside with their weapons aimed at him.

Mexico City (kath.net/KAP) In Mexico the Catholic Bishop Salvador Rangel Mendoza after several attempts fell just short of being assassinated. The Bishop of the Diocese of Huejutla reported to the international "H Noticias", that he was pursued by a car in which several sat inside and had their weapons aimed at him.

In the last minute, he succeeded in fleeing to a nearby hospital: "Thank God the door of the hospital was open", said the Bishop according to "H Noticias", which is attempting wholeheartedly to learn what is happening in the case.

Litigious, Pro-Homosexual Mexican Bishop Thumbs Nose at Local Critics




Edit: Mexico has a petulant and grandiose Prelate running the show who doesn't agree with the Church's teachings. He's so bad his people have even protested outside the Chancery against him. Of course, that's almost unheard of in the United States probably owing to the fact that there aren't enough Catholics to have a decent protest, but we digress.

His Lordship was called to Rome for an investigation recently.

Since then he's claimed already that he wasn't reprimanded by the Vatican in El Universal for his support of a group that promotes homosexuality called, Noe Ruiz or any of the other egregious things he's been accused of doing.

The Bishop is also promoting the abolishing of the Church's teaching on the sin of abortion at Lifesite.

When the local laity protested against this Old Liberal, as was reported by Whispers, this deeply spiritual and humanitarian crusader for civil rights threatened to sue them.
